American Postwar Film
Hollywood movies
dominated American films for such a long time with its fantasies, but some time
after World War II, there was a chance for Americans to make more “honest” and
a little different kind of films.
The Best Years of
Our Lives, was a collaboration between director William Wyler,
cinematographer Gregg Toland, composer Hugo Friedhofer and some very talented
actors. It is a three-hour movie about American soldiers’ return and
re-adjustment to their homes; where we can see how it isn’t a fantasy story,
and is much more a real-life thing.
Also, the main three soldiers of the movie, were each of them from a different social class. This shows how life-based the film is.
