This story is about a man called Mr. Duffy who is very organized and prudent. He always does the same things and has a boring life. One day he meets Mrs. Sinico and they start seeing each other although she’s married. They both get along pretty well because they share the same interests, but one day Mr. Duffy cuts their relationship because he got bothered by Mrs. Sinico’s actions.
Four years pass and on his daily routine, Mr. Duffy is reading the newspaper and he finds something titled “ A Painful Case” which is about the death of Mrs. Sinico, who was hit by a train at a station in Dublin the previous evening. He feels sad and goes to drink to a pub and after that, he starts to realize he’d given up the love of his life.
I liked this story because it’s different from the typical love story we’re used to read where the two lovers end up together. That’s what I thought was going to happen, but it surprised me to read that Mrs. Sinico died and that the story turned out to be a sad one.
